Busy buzzing Mardi Gras time

That's right, it is officially carnival season full blown peaking this weekend and ending with a bang on Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras day. I made my first King Cake recently, actually made two within a few days time, thanks to my dear bread machine who did all the hard work. I will have the pics of these fab desserts up on my new baking blog when I get it set up sooooon!

I have been so busy listing items in my etsy store, Light the Darkness. I have over 70 items now and have dozens more to list, which will bring me well over 100 items. Hopefully traffic will pick up by ten too and I will make a couple more sales. Crossing fingers!~

Otherwise all is fantastic. Been looking at new cameras to improve on my photography, and making cute heart earrings, coming soon...

cheers!

Ruby

Custom Pink Beaded Silk Velvet Flower

Last Friday the 13th I listed this lovely silk headband with pink velvet rose in my etsy store, Light the Darkness. The next day which was Valentine's day I received a request for the same flower but on a hair clip instead of headband. So I whipped up another pretty pink silk velvet beaded rose, and beaded it all weekend! The result was even better than the first one I made, this lovely pink beaded hair accessory:

Pink Beaded Velvet Flower Clip

my only issue was that when I took the pictures of this custom rose, it was dark outside so I used indoor lighting and the pink is all washed out. Still pretty, and the same pink as the headband rose. These pics look better.

I am working on several other flowers right now too. A black gothic lolita velvet rose, a white crystal and pearly velvet rose (think bridal), and a romantic cerulean blue rose with a large turquoise pearl. All lovely and unique. I can do custom pieces as well! Just contact me through etsy right here.

Vintage Inspired Color Combinations

While I love jewel tones, and bright colors, I also adore more subdued vintage feeling color combinations. Old rose colors, chocolate tones, bronze and caramel. Pair them up with a soft touch of pastel in the right complementing shade and you have a gorgeous color way. Here is one of my favorite examples:

Pale Green Pearls and Bronze Beaded Crystal Swarovski Heart Necklace

I love the dark bronze colored gold with the soft almost minty green pastel. It makes me think of something bright and satiny green with topaz and dark gold embellishments. I like the creamy gold color of the crystal heart with the sparkling green crystals and smooth pearls. The different shades and depths of these colors together are fabulous and have a very vintage feel.

Hot Pink Beaded Earrings

I was born right before Valentine's day, so my birthdays growing up always involved pink and red heart decorations. So my love of pink was created, and til this day even though I do not always feel like wearing pink clothing, I love the color pink. Especially pink jewelry!

I noticed that it was difficult to find really bright and noticeable PINK jewelry! So I decided to make my own. :)

I created these cute little hot pink glass beaded and silver earrings, they are so cute!

Hello I am Ruby Scream

Hello! I am Ruby Scream, an American designer from Los Angeles living in New Orleans with my husband. I love it here, being surrounded by vintage decor and decadence, and now call New Orleans my home.

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved beautiful objects. From shiny, sparkly glass to soft velvet and smooth satin. My family dressed me up at a young age, piercing my ears with gold and jewels, and putting me in red velvet dresses. I grew up with a true appreciation for feminine fashion.

Now I spend my days designing and creating fashion accessories, influenced by the styles and trends that have come and gone throughout the years, inspiring us to decorate ourselves and the things around us.

My quickie resume:

Where my work has been seen: My printed velvet textiles, Barney's New York, Neiman Marcus, the Pacific Design Center on Melrose in West Hollywood Ca, Emeril's Delmonico Restaurant in New Orleans (velvet walls in the crystal room), Interiors & Extras of Metairie. I have sold to shops in the French Quarter New Orleans, many celebrities own my work.

I have recently began my lifelong ambition to design jewelry (and just found the time to do so!), and etsy is the perfect place for this work from home gal who loves to make things.
